Hereford
The city and county town of Hereford lies approximately 5 miles from The Bowens Hotel and 16 miles from the Welsh Border. With a population of around 50,000 Hereford is traditionally known for its hops, cider and beef cattle.
Dominating this historic town is Hereford Cathedral which dates back to 1079 and contains the world famous Mappa Mundi, a medieval map of the world dating from the 13th century. The cathedral also houses the Chained Library.
Hereford's mix of exclusive smaller independent shops and familiar high street names provide a relaxed almost traffic free fix of retail therapy. In addition Hereford has a fine selection of cafes, bars and restaurants including the Left Bank area located along the banks of the River Wye.
For a more cultural day out visit The Hereford Museum and Art Gallery for a glimpse into the town's history and life. Or follow The Cider Trail to learn about Hereford's well known home grown tipple. And for an evening's entertainment check out what's on at the local cinema or try the Courtyard Centre for the Arts, Hereford's premier theatre and cultural venue.
